Welcome to the Society

Welcome to the University of Portsmouth Music Society, UPMS. UPMS is one of many successful societies in the University, with around 200 members. There are 6 ensembles run by the Society: Orchestra, Big Band, Dramatic and Musical Society, Windband, Chamber Singers and Choir. Depending on the individual ensemble, concerts are given at the end of the term, with the Annual Production in the Spring Term as a joint venture between the Orchestra and Dramatic and Musical Society.

We plan to go on tour to Germany (Saxony) in 2010, and have previously been on tour to Spain, the Czech Republic and Poland. The Society is run by a small committee, which is elected by UPMS members in April and stays in office for a year. Membership costs £5 a year and members need to obtain a society card from either the manager of the ensemble or Colin Jagger, Director of Music, found in the Wiltshire building.
